Christmas break is one of the most
favorite breaks in the middle of the
academic season even if we have
lots of university work and yes,
papers to write, topics to think about.
Advent Season, exchange gifts, "Simbang Gabi",
and Noche Buena! Kahit choc nut lang (even if its coconut
candies...) Kissing the Babe Jesus at 12midnight!
...it's the Christmas Spirit that counts!
So, writing about study techniques
on Christmas break? Don't be a "jologs" okay?
Most students might say....
Okay "jologs" means in "jurassic" terms
as super "kill joy".
Friends, I am not here to put ice on a blazing
happy Christmas despite economic crunch.
As I have been writing, working and studying...
It is great to be visiting your notes at least
45 minutes a day! So, you won't feel
as if you came from another planet by January2009
HAVE A WONDERFUL AND FUN FUN CHRISTMAS!
Don't forget to jump on New Year's Eve for those
who are dreaming to reach your 5'4 height, okay.....!
I have come across this www.pill4weightloss.com
so you can read the tips on how not to get overweight.
You don't have to buy the natural weight loss pill if
you don't need it, but if you do..ask your mom first.
P.S. For those who have not given there Christmas gifts
to your beloved teachers...or a Christmas card...
Don't forget you still have a chance until
"Three Kings" celebration.
My gifts for my former prof....?....Will be on "Three Kings..."
hopefully if it will still be accepted, if not I will
try giving it on "St. Valentine's day".

AS THIRD QUARTER APPROACHES
As third quarter approaches, many students
are already having goose bumps..Honestly, not
only students but teachers as well.
You see, when a student has not developed
a good foundation in study technique in learning
a subject, the teacher can somehow predict
if her pupil is going to finish the line with flying
colors or a dreaded C-.
Teachers have goose bumps as well, especially
when two or three of your students can't really
make it, as she moves her way through the third
quarter, it's time to act, before the finals comes along.
If you are the student, and if you are really failing, the
best way is consider your options, what makes me don't
like the subject, is it because I don't really like studying?
What study style will work for me?
Will I need help?
Must I close television for the last two weeks
stretch before I hit the chair of the third quarter
examination?
Choices is what makes life really cool.

TRIGONOMETRY TRIGGERS
Trigo has has always been
an exciting part of High School Life.
It either triggers your engineering
hidden talents, or you can just tell
yourself "trigo is not a necessity
in entering heaven..." as one of
my teacher would often say, as some
of my classmates are not trigono-
metrically born.
How to survive a trigo class and get
A+ nevertheless:
1. Look for friends who can
assist you.
My experience started when
I was groping the ropes of Algebra,
I had two best friends, Erlinda who
was good in acting, and Step who was
born to be a walking Algebra, Geometry book.
Step Tan was my coach in Algebra and Geometry class,
which gave me the foundation in my trigo class.
2. We would spend time practicing the
problems every after class under the Talisay
trees or library. Honestly we were not nerd
geeks, its the thought of staying over summer
in our hot classroom which scares us, so we
would rather do our best and get the best grade
we can muster, just in case we hit low in
some quizzes, we still had buffer.
3. An important study technique is to
love your teacher, and ask your teacher
to explain it again, if you don't get it.
Don't forget to give her a gift on Christmas.
It's a way of saying thank you for all the
trouble.
4. Keep on practicing, understanding the
concepts.
5. Another technique which never fails is
prayer, especially when your nerves can eat you
up. This study technique really works. My study
technique is to pray a whole decade of the Rosary
before starting up studying Trigo then, and the
night before the exam. I also made sure, before asking
help from the heavens(esp. from Our Lady and my
dear Friend: My Guardian Angel), was I did my part.
It worked for me, I hope it will work for you too.

STRESS MANAGEMENT
It is an important study technique to know
how to manage stress:
First, take time to rest after
school.
Second, its great to go out on weekends.
Watch movies, plays or concerts. You
may also opt to go mountain climbing.
Third, the best study technique to
is to study when your mind has rested
adequately, ready for new inputs.
Fourth, enjoy studying.
Stress management is one of the best
study technique for best results.

READING DAILY NOTES
The technique of mastering your lesson is reading
your notes daily, especially on data you have
to memorized and understand very well.
Some use their Ipods, others in an index card,
other they just carry their notebooks, whether
they are riding on a public transportation or
simply riding a car. The others who drive,
tape their teacher's lecture so they can
review them when driving.
Happy learning!

PREPARING FOR A QUIZ
Here are some inside story of how
to understand the psychology of your
teachers in school.
Most teachers give quizzes to check on
their students whether they are
getting the subject or not.
If you are the student, most times
you don't like surprise quizzes as
you also surprise your teachers with low
grades, so its good to work on the following
at the start of your lectures:
First, love your teacher. Even if he or she
can be characterized in one word as "terror",
more often than not, their aim is to
put discipline and order in the classroom.
Most terror teachers, I finally discovered
as I am finishing my M.A. studies, give the
"effect" for the purpose of helping their students
to get "disciplined". Most of them, if not all
of them are simply lovable educators, who wants
to share learning at its finest.
Second, always go to class
reading two chapters
ahead of schedule, and keep
important points
mentally. The technique
here is to create a
story of those concepts.
I remember, we were
asked to memorize all the
different big wigs of
the philosophical world,
plus Latin declensions and
Spanish verbs on top of that.
Honestly I started joining the
group of the Latin declensions who sang it
La Bamba style (this is choppy music of the Latinos).
In so far as Rene Descartes and
Husserl are concerned, we just gave
them nick names like
Karl, Rene and
"Kant understand a thing" style.
Do your best to focus
your attention to your
teacher while he or
she is speaking, even if you
see yourself dozing off. Ask
your seatmate to give you a nodge,
just in case you really did fall asleep.
Your teacher will
appreciate it very much.
Third, after the class,
relax a little, then make
a quick review
of your notes, and
upon arriving home,
block a time for review
before making
your assignments.
Fourth, Television is
not really bad,
but based on research,
it hampers your creativity
and analysis. Internet use are
useful, in so far as doing research
and organizing group work, otherwise
navigating endlessly can just be a
waste of time.
Choose to block
watching the news and
favorite shows on weekends, by
asking your mom or dad to tape
it for you, because choosing to
sleep on time can help you maintain
your intellectual capacities sharp,
as it makes your neurons create
synapses very well.
Lastly, enjoy being as student,
since its very different
from the professional
world.
Learning will never stop,
but to be in school
and in the university as a student
is just one of those memorable
days which will come to pass,
the next time you
find yourself in it,
is you are either balancing
work and finishing your masters,
doctorate, or being one of
the professors, or officials.
A very different
world of young student life.
